Android Quick Settings
Fish on?
Swipe, tap.
Add the FishBytes Log Catch tile to your Quick Settings. The moment a fish hits, swipe down and tap it: the spot and time are saved right then. Fight it with both hands; your phone comes out once the fish is landed or lost.
Why use it
Nothing to open first
Swipe down and tap, from any app or the lock screen. You never go looking for FishBytes mid-fight.
The spot is exact
The spot and time are saved the instant you tap: where the fish hit, not wherever you remember to log it after the release.
Every fight is timed
A fight timer starts with the tap, so you know how long that one took you.
The ones that got away count
Pulled the hook? The bite still goes in your log, spot and all, so you know where they were hitting.
Set it up once
You need FishBytes installed first so the tile shows up. Quick Settings looks a little different from one phone maker to the next, but the steps are the same.
- 1
Swipe down twice from the top of your phone's screen to open all of Quick Settings.
- 2
Tap Edit, the pencil on most phones.
- 3
Scroll to the tiles you can add and find Log Catch, from FishBytes. Hold it and drag it up into your tiles.
- 4
Keep it among the first few tiles, and it shows with a single swipe down.
The tile reads Tap to log while a trip is recording and No trip when one isn't. Tap it with no trip and FishBytes opens so you can start one.
On the water
Fish on
Swipe down and tap Log Catch. The spot and time are saved right then, and FishBytes opens on the catch.
Fight it
Phone down, both hands on the rod. The timer runs on its own.
Landed
Now take your phone out. Snap a photo and FishBytes suggests the species. Add the length and details now or later.
Lost it
Tap Lost catch on the notification, or hold Lost it in the app. It goes in your log as a lost fish, with its spot and how long you had it on.
Either way, you're back to fishing.
Works from the lock screen. The spot and time are saved when you tap, and FishBytes opens on the catch once you unlock.
Other ways to log
Home screen shortcut
Long-press the FishBytes icon and tap Log a catch. Drag Log a catch onto your home screen and it becomes a one-tap Log Catch icon.
Flic 2 button
A small, splash-proof Bluetooth button you clip to your hat or life jacket. While a trip is recording, any press logs the fish without touching your phone. Flic 2 setup →
Automation apps
Tasker and other apps that can send an intent can log a catch too: start an activity with the action com.waschlogic.fishbytes.action.LOG_CATCH.
On an iPhone? Use the Action Button.
Phone down. Fish on.
